Today, I'm going to share three inexpensive and effective Chinese patent medicines specifically designed to regulate the three types of 'fire' that come up from our mouths. Be sure to take notes!

Let's talk about the first type of fire – stomach fire. If you have bad breath in your mouth, it's very likely due to excessive stomach fire. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the stomach is like a 'large furnace,' responsible for digesting the food we eat. If stomach fire is too strong, it's as if this 'furnace' is burning too fiercely. The turbid gas produced by the fermentation of food inside will rise up, leading to bad breath. This type of bad breath isn't something that can be solved by just brushing your teeth or rinsing your mouth; it originates from within the body and will persist.

At this time, traditional Chinese medicine often uses Qingwei Huanglian Wan (Stomach-Clearing Coptis Pills) for conditioning. This Qingwei Huanglian Wan contains herbs such as Coptis chinensis (huang lian) and Scutellaria baicalensis (huang qin). Coptis chinensis can clear heat, dry dampness, purge fire, and detoxify, while Scutellaria baicalensis also has the effects of clearing heat and purging fire. When combined, they can bring down the fire in the stomach, preventing turbid qi from rising upward, and thus naturally alleviate bad breath.

Now let's talk about the second type of fire—liver fire. If you often feel that your mouth is dry and bitter, and even drinking a lot of water does not quench your thirst, it is likely that you have excessive liver fire. In traditional Chinese medicine, the liver is like a "general," responsible for regulating our emotions and the movement of qi and blood. If liver fire is excessive, it is as if this "general" loses its temper, affecting other bodily functions. In such cases, in addition to dryness and bitterness in the mouth, symptoms such as irritability, insomnia, and fullness and distension in the hypochondrium may also occur. The hypochondrium refers to the area on both sides of the ribs, where one may feel bloated and particularly uncomfortable. Moreover, the eyes may become red, swollen, and painful, and there may be a buzzing sound in the ears, accompanied by dizziness and tinnitus.

For this situation, traditional Chinese medicine often considers using Danggui Longhui Wan (Angelica and Aloe Pills) for conditioning. Danggui Longhui Wan contains herbs such as Angelica sinensis (dang gui) and Aloe vera (lu hui). Angelica sinensis can nourish and invigorate blood, while Aloe vera can clear liver fire and purge heat. Together, they can clear the fire from the liver, restoring balance to the body.

Finally, let's discuss the third type of fire—heart fire. If the tip of your tongue is red, you have mouth ulcers, and you feel restless and unable to sleep, it is likely that you have excessive heart fire. In traditional Chinese medicine, the heart is like a "ruler," governing our spirit and consciousness. If heart fire is excessive, it is as if this "ruler" becomes agitated and overheated, affecting our mood and sleep.

At this time, Huanglian Shangqing Wan can be appropriately used for regulation. Huanglian Shangqing Wan contains medicinal herbs such as huanglian (coptis) and zhizi (gardenia fruit). Huanglian can purge heart fire, while zhizi also clears heat and purges fire. They can bring down the fire in the heart, allowing the ulcers to gradually heal and also improve sleep.

Family, have you remembered these three traditional Chinese patent medicines for regulating "fire" in the mouth and their corresponding symptoms? If you or someone around you has these conditions, you might consider trying these traditional Chinese patent medicines.
