The best way to dispel dampness is to use Chaihu Shugan San first, followed by Shenling Baizhu San.
People often complain to me: "I've taken so many dampness-clearing medicines, why does it feel like they're not working at all?" In fact, dispelling dampness is all about the proper sequence. If you use the wrong method, you're just wasting your money
Why do others see quick results with dampness removal while you stay stuck in place? The key lies in missing the core principle: "Soothe the liver first, then strengthen the spleen!" Nowadays, many people are under immense pressure—either bottling up anger with nowhere to vent or spending all day frowning and sighing. This is actually Liver Qi Stagnation! Over time, the liver acts like an out-of-control bulldozer, "bullying" the spleen and stomach. This causes the spleen's ability to process water and dampness to plummet, leading to more accumulated dampness and worsening spleen deficiency.
How should you regulate your body in this situation? Remember this golden sequence: first, use Chaihu Shugan San to "loosen the ties" on the liver and clear the stagnant Liver Qi; then, strengthen the spleen! After all, after being tormented by Liver Qi for so long, the spleen and stomach have already been significantly damaged. You must cut off the source of dampness to solve the problem fundamentally! If spleen deficiency symptoms are obvious—such as feeling weak all day, having no appetite, wanting to do nothing but lie down, having an oily face, and loose stools—this is the time to use Shenling Baizhu San to specifically "repair" the weakened spleen and stomach. This one-two punch of soothing the liver first and then strengthening the spleen is far more effective than just drinking dampness-removing tea or taking dampness-clearing medicine!
There is another even more troublesome situation—when dampness has accumulated for too long and turned into damp-heat! People in this state often have a dry, bitter mouth and foul breath; they feel as if they are wrapped in a steamer, with sticky, smelly sweat; their urine is as yellow as strong tea, their stools are dry and hard to pass, and even their tongue coating is yellow and greasy. In this case, you still need to rely on Chaihu Shugan San first to clear the Liver Qi, and then use Huoxiang Qingwei Wan to clear out all the damp-heat in the body at once!
Therefore, removing dampness isn't as simple as drinking a few bowls of dampness-clearing soup. Only by identifying the root cause and regulating the body in the correct order can you truly "drive out" the dampness! Next time you try to remove dampness, don't just blindly toss things at the wall
