In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we often say that the kidney is the "foundation of innate constitution," while the spleen is the "foundation of acquired constitution." These two organs are closely intertwined. Think about it: if the spleen is weak and its transport and transformation functions are sluggish, the kidneys won't receive sufficient nourishment. Over time, kidney deficiency will inevitably follow. It’s just like a farmer tending to his fields—if the soil lacks fertilizer and the crops can't absorb enough nutrients, how can they grow well?

Many people, upon realizing they have a kidney deficiency, rush to consume deer antler, goji berries, and various Rehmannia-based kidney tonics. The result? Aside from "internal heat" (inflammation), they see no improvement at all. Why is that? In fact, they have ignored the spleen and stomach. If the spleen and stomach are weak and their processing capacity is poor, no matter how many tonics you take, the body simply cannot absorb them. Therefore, if you want kidney-tonifying medicines to truly take effect, you must first regulate the spleen and stomach.

So, how should we regulate the spleen and stomach? Today, I will share two Chinese patent medicines that supplement both the spleen and the kidneys. If you find this helpful, feel free to like and save this post.

The first is Pi Shen Liang Zhu Wan. Some people with kidney deficiency may experience symptoms such as weakness, fatigue, dizziness, tinnitus, and a loss of appetite. Even eating a small amount of food can lead to bloating, nausea, or the urge to vomit. In severe cases, they may feel dizzy and have weak legs. These are all caused by a deficiency in both the spleen and kidneys. In such cases, it is necessary to address both the spleen/stomach and the kidneys simultaneously. Pi Shen Liang Zhu Wan serves this exact purpose; it can both strengthen the spleen and tonify the kidneys, allowing their functions to recover gradually.

The second is Fu Zi Li Zhong Wan. If, in addition to the symptoms mentioned above, you also suffer from an aversion to cold, loose stools, frequent indigestion, or diarrhea triggered by cold food, it is likely due to a deficiency of Yang energy in the spleen and kidneys. To regulate the body in this situation, one must warm and tonify the spleen-kidney Yang. Fu Zi Li Zhong Wan is specifically designed for this; it warms the middle burner to strengthen the spleen and also supplements kidney Yang. Once the Yang energy of the spleen and kidneys is restored, the physical symptoms will naturally subside.

Remember, tonifying the kidneys shouldn't just focus on the kidneys alone; the spleen and stomach are also vital. Only when the spleen and stomach are well-regulated can the kidney-tonifying medicine be properly absorbed, leading to a healthier body.
